The Lebanese Ski and Mountain Warfare School was formally established 01 May 1986. However, mountain ski fighting training had been occuring under French auspicies since 1934. The organization made two large and notable successful rescues in 1962 and 1969 of soldiers lost in the mountains. The mountain ski team is capable of missions in combat in mountains under any weather conditions and search and rescues in snowy weather. The skiing soldier on the emblem symbolizes the capabilities of the mountain ski team. The white snow symbolizes the purity of the Lebanese mountains. The cedar is the symbol of Lebanon and the laurel represents gratitude.
