MOUNTAIN WARFARE CADRE INSIGNIA

Welcome to my wiki!  This wiki details my worldwide insignia collection devoted to Mountain Warfare units.

ABOUT ME!

My name is Piotr, and I live in Poland.  I have been collecting for insignia and militaria for many years.

I have been specialising in Mountain Warfare / High Altitude / Alpine and Ski unit insignia for the past 30 years.

WHY MOUNTAIN WARFARE?

Mountain Warfare is specialised combat with unique characteristics.

Mountain Warfare is unique to those countries with mountainous areas.

European nations such as France, Austria, Germany, Poland and Italy have had numerous confrontations over the past few centuries - and conflict in and around and on mountainous regions has resulted in specialist units being set up to defend these outcrops etc.  It was the Italians who first established Alpini units...quickly followed by the French. This resulted in the central European Powers quickly following suit.   It was not until WWII, when Mounatin Warfare was 'romantacised' and celebrated by military powers by the success that the gebirgsjaeger' of the German Wehrmacht achieved. The Americans and British soon realised that the need for soldiers to be able to operate in such extreme weather and high altitudes was needed. The India Pakistan conflict reminds us of the continuation of this warfare activity. Many nations today have such a specialisation.

It is hoped that this wiki will show piece such insignia and contribute to the growth of my collection.

MY COLLECTION:

Here you can find the insignia from my collection.

But not only. You can also find the badges or patches which are on my want list (described on red) and some useful information.

I've just started building this website (with the great help and effort of the good friend of mine - frankly he got me started. Thanks a lot - Drew).

And this is the neverending story so please be patient because it may take me some time to upload everything from my collection.
